The Golden Rules of Wheel Care
Before we get into specific products and techniques, let's establish the three golden rules of forged wheel care: 1) Never clean hot wheels — wait until they're cool to the touch. 2) Never use automatic car washes with wheel brushes or rail guides. 3) Always use pH-neutral products specifically formulated for painted or polished aluminum surfaces.
Break any of these rules and you risk etching the clear coat, micro-scratching the finish, or — in the worst case — causing permanent corrosion. Forged wheels are incredibly strong, but their finishes require the same care you'd give to your car's paintwork.
The Weekly Wash
For regular maintenance, we recommend a touchless approach whenever possible. Start with a high-pressure rinse to remove loose dust and debris. Apply a pH-neutral wheel cleaner and allow it to dwell for 60-90 seconds — never let it dry on the surface. Agitate gently with a dedicated wheel woolie or microfiber wash mitt, then rinse thoroughly.
For the barrel and hard-to-reach areas, use a long-handled wheel brush with soft synthetic bristles. Avoid natural bristle brushes, which can absorb and hold abrasive particles. After washing, dry immediately with a clean microfiber towel to prevent water spots — especially important on polished and diamond-cut finishes.
Protection & Maintenance Schedule
Every 3-6 months, depending on driving conditions, we recommend applying a ceramic coating or high-quality wheel sealant. These products create a hydrophobic barrier that repels brake dust, road grime, and moisture — making your weekly washes faster and more effective while providing UV protection against finish degradation.
For track day enthusiasts: apply a high-temperature wheel wax before each event. This sacrificial layer will take the brunt of the extreme brake dust and heat, making post-track cleanup dramatically easier. Remove and reapply after each event.
